WiFi optimisation product announced

WiFi software specialist Fontech has launched its WiFi self-organizing networks (SON) product.

The solution is designed to help operators gain full visibility of their WiFi networks through the use of real time data, as well turning access points into managed hotspots without the need for “heavy investment” in infrastructure.

The CPE platform-agnostic product works via the company’s cloud server, automatically analysing and managing radio resources, from the network level down to individual hotspots. It features real-time monitoring and mapping, as well as solutions to mitigate congestion, noise, and interference.

Speaking of WiFi SON, Alex Puregger, CEO at Fon, said: “Up to 80 per cent of mobile data traffic goes via WiFi, so it is fundamental for operators to understand how customers use it, to ensure a good experience.

“With 5G, the integration of WiFi will be crucial - it will have to become part of operator-managed networks. What we have built over the last few years is an amazing technology which gives operators the chance to understand and manage [the technology].”
