Kenwood future-proofs its digital portfolio with mid-tier DMR multi-protocol capability

(Advertisement feature) KENWOOD’s Multi-Protocol NX-3000 Series DMR line-up offers users the ultimate voice and data radio communications as their needs change over time

It’s been a while in the making, but with the recent introduction of the NX-3000 Series, Kenwood have brought the key benefits of the multi-protocol, high-tier NX-5000 Series to the wider enterprise critical audience in a game-changing new generation of multi-protocol radios that effectively leap-frog everything else.

With the new NX-3000 Series users can choose to operate in either DMR or NXDN® plus FM analogue and offers built-in GPS, Bluetooth, renowned KENWOOD audio quality with built-in DSP based Active Noise Reduction (ANR) and advanced AES, DES and ARC4 optional encryption.

NX-3000 Series portables
The NX-3000 Series is available for both UHF and VHF operation with the portable radios offered in three requirements: Full Keypad, Standard Keypad and Simple.

NX-3000 Series mobile
Mobile users haven’t been neglected either with four configurations available:

  • Base model
  • Base model with GPS and Bluetooth
  • High-power model
  • High-power with GPS and Bluetooth.

Mike Atkins, Director, JVCKENWOOD UK commented: “The NX-5000 Series certainly proved the market appetite for our multiprotocol concept and has already been successfully employed in numerous mission critical applications around the world. The ability for mixed digital DMR or NEXEDGE® NXDN plus FM Analogue support gives users migrating from Analogue to Digital the opportunity to make the change at their own pace, while the choice between DMR or NXDN, including NEXEDGE® Generation 2 operation, provides the reassurance that they can switch between the two should their needs change over time without the additional disruption and costs previously associated with switching to and from TDMA to FDMA digital air interfaces.

“The NX-3000 Series is far from being a lower specification version of the NX-5000. It has been designed from the ground-up with extensive input from users and resellers to incorporate the most important user features along with a wealth of standard features and functionality previously only found in high-tier radios.

“The R&D team have really burnt the midnight oil in delivering the NX-3000 Series which not only completes but extends our current DMR line-up.”

Feature-rich value
Standard features of the NX-3000 Series include:

  • Dual technology, multi protocol choices
  • Integrated GPS
  • Bluetooth audio and data
  • Text messaging
  • Over-the-Air Programming (OTAP) and Over-the-Air Alias (OAA)
  • Active Noise Reduction (ANR)
  • Auto audio recording
  • Multi-line full dot-matrix LCD with white backlighting
  • 56-bit DES encryption
  • Remote and Lone Worker safety features

Atkins continues: “It’s fair to say that our commitment to a technology and protocol neutral strategy and offering solutions across both analogue and digital technologies, different formats and the various air interfaces including PMR 446, dPMR 446, dPMR, DMR and P25 has meant that we’re not always first to market. However, the upside is that we get the opportunity to observe market dynamics and technology developments to introduce products which meet user needs at the right price points.

“The continued development of NEXEDGE® including Gen 2 has seen growth to over 1.75 million devices in operation while the introduction of our license-exempt ProTalk FD DECT series has created significant sales from customers in new sectors.

“But the future as we all know, is not just about equipment but the enabling of radio systems to meet the most specific safety, security and operational requirements of an increasingly sophisticated customer. The launch of our KAS-20 software suite is a good example of responding to those requirements”.

The KENWOOD Digital Partners Network
In support of all the developments from KENWOOD over the past year, their UK company has also announced the establishment of their Digital Partners Network which will initially comprise of resellers with specific training and expertise but could in the future include application developers and systems integrators.

As Mike Atkins concludes: “The past two years have been an incredibly dynamic period for us and I feel that establishing the Digital Partners Network provides the glue to take our initiatives successfully to market.

The key driver in establishing the network is to restore both choice and profitability in a mature and competitive market where manufacturer pricing strategies have left resellers short on both. We also wanted to make sure that we are able to serve our customers better through a hand-picked network of partners that can offer the ideal combination of sales, technical and support services for their systems. If there are any reputable dealers interested in joining the network, we’d be interested in hearing from them”.
