Hytera’s VM780 combination bodycam/PoC radio is now available

Hytera’s latest body-worn video camera, the VM780, is now commercially available in the UK. It doubles as a PTT over Cellular (PoC) radio, while also possessing integrated remote speaker microphone functionality.

The VM780 features a 2.8” TFT-LCD colour touch screen, a 216-degree vertically rotatable high definition camera, and a 3500mAh removable battery that allows more than nine hours of continuous video shooting at 720p/30FPS. The VM780’s physical buttons include a PTT button, an emergency button and buttons for both audio and video recording and photo taking.

The device supports H.265 video compression technology, which according to Hytera, requires much narrower network bandwidth for real time HD video transmission than H.264. It is also equipped with GPS/GLONASS positioning technology and supports Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.2.

How to buy body-worn video cameras

As far as resilience is concerned, the VM780 is IP68 rated for protection from dust/water ingress and is certified to the MIL-STD-810 G certification.

In terms of PoC functionality, the VM780 can connect to DMR Tier 3 via Hytera’s P-PoC6000 software solution and Hytera is expecting to release its HyTalk PTT application in the autumn. This will provide PTT, full-duplex audio, instant messaging and video communication capabilities.
