Industry giant launches MNO-agnostic PTT over cellular

Motorola Solutions has announced the launch of its WAVE two-way radio TLK 100 push to talk-over-cellular system in the United States.

According to the company, the solution – which consists of the device itself, an embedded 4G SIM and software, alongside a subscription service – is compatible for use with any commercial broadband network carrier. It is designed for “the demanding needs of businesses with a geographically dispersed workforce.”

Speaking of the subscription element of the product, the company’s business development lead Sean Taylor said: “WAVE OnCloud is a push-to-talk service from Motorola Solutions. It connects teams at the push of a button across different networks and devices. It eliminates the barriers between devices, networks and locations to let everyone be part of the conversation.”

He continued: “[The WAVE TLK 100] will be highly useful to medium- and large-sized businesses with task-oriented workers who require constant, daily communication with dispatch or management. It also will be helpful for industries with field services where tracking vehicle locations and ongoing communication with field teams is essential for business operations.”

The product, which will be introduced to the US market in September, will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis, or via a two-year contract. Those choosing the latter may find that, again according to Motorola, certain dealers offer the device for free.

Its embedded SIM has been permanently attached to “prevent it from being stolen or removed, [something] which could impact business productivity.” The product has no telephony function and will not function without a subscription to OnCloud.
