Ports of Jersey’s new vessel traffic service (VTS) is in operation

After a rapid implementation programme Ports of Jersey’s modernised control centre system is up and running. Frequentis was selected to modernise the systems through a fully integrated solution and supported by a ten-year maintenance contract. After the factory acceptance test in February, Ports of Jersey signed off acceptance for its use in live operations in May 2016.

After an extremely rapid and successful deployment, the upgrade of its operational and stand-by control centres, multiple remote radios, radars and automatic identification systems has been completed. Ports of Jersey provides 24/7 VTS and coastguard global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) services, relying on Frequentis solutions to supply these services.

Vessel traffic services improve the safety and efficiency of navigation and integrate all information into a single operator working environment. This enables all ports an effective traffic organisation and communication for an improved safety at sea.

“Frequentis continued to provide exceptional project management”, Russell Mathew, coastguard and VTS manager at Ports of Jersey, said. “With this fully integrated solution the company provided a product to meet all our specific requirements within a very tight schedule.”

With its first vessel traffic service in United Kingdom waters Frequentis delivered high-level integration, an open interface architecture and possibilities for full interoperability with neighbouring coast guard services – all complaint to the IALA V-128 standard.
