Ericsson innovators announced
SNAP, a team from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, has won Ericsson’s 2017 Innovation Awards
As part of this year’s theme of ‘the future of food’, SNAP developed a solution to reduce the cost and inefficiency of soil sample analytics.
Runners-up included Enigma, also from India, which developed a device to detect the presence of weevils, and Finland’s Foodgrid, with its social and commercial platform to connect farmers and consumers.
Speaking of the results, Börje Ekholm, president and CEO of Ericsson, says: "As our world's population rises, so does the challenge of ensuring zero hunger.
“This competition allows us to discover new technologies to transform our quality of life, food production and consumption. We continue to embrace and drive innovation and are devoted to the global ecosystems that support it."
The jury for the 2017 Ericsson Innovation Awards was chaired by Sara Mazur, head of Ericsson Research and included representatives from MIT Media Lab, Imperial College London, and Stockholm FoodTech.
The final of the awards was held at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm, on June 12.
