According to Getac, it has been “at the forefront of LiFi innovation” for several years, having already integrated it into its products via the use of dongles. LiFi uses light rather than radio frequency to transmit data, with benefits stated by Getac including “extremely low latency, improved privacy and security, and superior connection quality, especially in RF-denied environments.”
Discussing the potential for the technology, a Getac spokesperson said: “[LiFi] unlocks a wide range of powerful new applications across sectors where professionals work in challenging conditions. For example, it’s minimal cabling requirements enables defence professionals to install highly secure field communications networks in a matter of minutes.
Getac EMEA senior director of technology and services, Amanda Ward, said: “Getac has long recognised the potential of LiFi to fundamentally change the way many organisations work and communicate. Through our partnership with Signify, we’re fully committed to designing, manufacturing and embedding innovative rugged LiFi solutions that will enable our customers to turn this potential into a reality.”
