The company will supply the event’s organisers with six IC-M73 marine handheld VHF radios to help with the communications between land and water. The race management team, together with race control and committee boats will use the marine handhelds to oversee the event and to ensure any emergencies are dealt with quickly. Icom UK is also supporting the event by sponsoring a buoy and radio prize.
“The radios will help us to be more responsive to any emergencies and overall to improve the management of the week,” said Carol Stokes, RTYC club manager. “We are extremely grateful for Icom's support and look forward to a long and lasting relationship with them as our communications supplier.”
The Ramsgate Week regatta has been a feature of the town’s calendar for more than 100 years.
Earlier this month, Icom introduced its new ‘regatta pack’ for similar marine applications. It features six IC-M73 Euro Marine VHF radios in a peli-style case, together with six integrated fast chargers and power supply, as a compact and portable support solution for Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and World Sailing (formerly the International Sailing Federation – ISAF) affiliated clubs’ marine communications.
