Discussing the initiative in a statement, a spokesperson said: “Connect More works with community organisations and partners to identify individuals who may benefit from digital skills training and to organise training sessions in local communities.
“At the sessions, which are free to attend, trained company volunteers work one-on-one to help attendees learn how to access and engage with the digital world. While every individual has unique needs, the aim is for each participant to leave with the skills and confidence to shop safely online, communicate digitally with loved ones, and more.”
The volunteers mentioned above include senior technical experts from Virgin Media O2 Business.
According to the company, the programme going into its third year will also offer digital skills training for employability. “This expansion,” continued the spokesperson, “will support individuals in gaining the skills needed to apply for jobs online, with a focus on supporting those in hard-to-reach communities.”
The new sessions will include training on video conferencing platforms, scam awareness, as well as word processing to help create CVs. This is currently being piloted in Reading.
Delivery director at Virgin Media O2 Business, Joanna Watts, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the positive impact our Connect More initiative has had over the past two years. Helping over 1,223 individuals overcome digital barriers is a testament to the importance of ensuring everyone has the tools and confidence to engage with essential online services.
“As we enter the third year of Connect More, our mission is to continue expanding our reach, particularly into areas like employability, where digital skills are crucial for job opportunities. We remain committed to supporting individuals and communities, ensuring they have the digital confidence needed to thrive in today’s landscape.”
