LA Live receives multi-carrier 5G connectivity

BAI-owned Mobilitie has partnered with AEG to host a 5G multi-carrier wireless network spanning the entire 5m sq ft LA LIVE sports and entertainment district.

The California complex which includes the home of the LA Lakers, LA Clippers, LA Kings and the Grammy Awards, the Crypto.com Arena, will see Mobilite deploy 5G coverage that will be integrated with all major US wireless carriers.

LA Live spans 5.6m sq ft of Los Angeles and has grown to incorporate ballrooms, bars, concert theatres, restaurants, movie theatres, a 54-story hotel and headquarter buildings for AEG and Herbalife since opening in 2008. As the zone attracts more than 10 million guests annually, Mobilite said the area had seen a steady increase in data usage each year, ”facilitating the need for network innovation and increasingly robust connectivity solutions across the industry”.

The updated network will equip Crypto.com Arena and the entire LA LIVE campus with one of the most technologically advanced multi-carrier wireless networks in the world according to Mobilite.

The new 5G network will allow the duo to deliver “an unmatched fan experience through cutting-edge technology” according to AEG chief operating officer Nick Baker

Christos Karmis, president and CEO of Mobilitie, said: “Mobilitie is pioneering the delivery of 5G connectivity for our clients, and we’re honoured to play a key role in creating a dynamic mobile experience for all fans and guests here. We have the most experienced and capable team in the industry that will ensure AEG, sports fans, visitors and guests all have a 5G experience that exceeds expectations that is enabled by our neutral host network.”

WWE Summerslam 2009 was one of many sold-out events hosted at the Crypto.com Arena Since opening in 1999, the former Staples Center has hosted seven NBA Finals series, two Stanley Cup Finals, three WTA Tour Championships, the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships, seven WWE major events and will be a host venue at the 2028 Olympics. The naming rights to the Staples Center were acquired by Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com in December 2021 in a deal was reported to be valued at $700m.

Mobilite previously teamed up with AEG to bring Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) technology to Dignity Health Sports Park (DHSP), the home of five-time Major League Soccer Cup Champions LA Galaxy. The deal saw Mobilitie expand the capabilities of the existing Mobilitie Distributed Antenna System (DAS) by launching a private LTE network using 3.5GHz CBRS.
