Using UrSOSButton activates an app on a connected smartphone, which in turn sends an alarm message back to a central control point – in this case Nottingham Council’s CCTV control room.
The alarm contains details of both who raised the alert and their GPS coordinates. It also initiates – via the app – a telephone call opening the hands free mic on the smartphone, enabling operators to eavesdrop and pick up important information at the scene.
Speaking of the roll-out, Nottingham City Homes’ head of health and safety Ian Rabett, said: "We take the personal safety of our employees extremely seriously and want to ensure that we have the best system in place should there ever be an incident.
“Because the CCTV Control Room will often be able to see an incident live, it will be both easier and quicker for them to determine the best course of action, and they can also share live feeds directly with the police."
Nottingham City Homes manages around 27,000 houses in and around the city which bears its name. UrSOSButton has already undergone a trial period in the council’s CCTV control room.
