Motorola makes Calipsa cloud capture

As part of the deal, Calipsa will continue to operate as a separate company within the Motorola Solutions group to continue to develop its cloud-based technology which add artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to existing IP-based cameras without additional hardware to enable new analytics capabilities.

According to the company, Calipsa’s scalable platform enables businesses to use AI-powered analytics that verify alarms, enable content-based searches, detect tampering and assess the health of cameras in real time. Following the deal it will continue to supply the technology to companies including Securitas, G4S, Totem Ecuador as well as targeting further expansion.

Calipsa was founded in London in 2016 by a team from Cambridge, UCL and Imperial Universities and claims its technology can reduce the number of false alarms in video monitoring systems by more than 90%.

Calipsa chief executive Mohammad Rashid said: "Joining the Motorola Solutions team enables us to accelerate the development and broaden the reach of our innovative technologies that transform video from a retroactive investigative tool into a proactive response tool."
