The service is supported by the company’s integrated communication and control (ICCS) solution, which has been used by the Norwegian emergency services since 2016. Once a member of the public has contacted the service, the message is addressed via a series of questions, either through the ICCS itself or in Outlook.
Speaking of the technology, Cecilie Daae, general director of the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB), said: “Contacting the emergency services is crucial in an emergency, but not everyone can make a voice call.
“Emergency SMS makes it easier for citizens to directly contact skilled operators at the emergency centre in an emergency situation. It makes everyday life safer.”
The eSMS two-year pilot is led by DSB in cooperation with the National Police Directorate and the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
