Mansoor joined Ofcom in 2018 to oversee the work of its Technology Group. Ofcom has said he will join NEOM, an eco-friendly smart city in the Middle East, next year.
Prior to his role with Ofcom, Mansoor held positions at BT and EE, where he had overarching responsibility for integrating the Orange and T-Mobile networks, and led the technical launch of EE’s 4G network.
The regulator has thanked Mansoor “for his contribution to Ofcom” and wished him “all the best for the future”.
Ofcom’s Technology Group will be led by Yih-Choung Teh, group director of strategy and research, until a replacement is recruited.
This follows reports in the Guardian earlier this month that Ofcom is set to appoint Melanie Dawes as its new chief executive, after the departure of Sharon White back in June. The appointment must be formalised by the culture secretary, so a confirmation is unlikely until after the general election.
