The UK scored 21.7 Mbps for download speed experience, 7.4 Mbps for upload speed experience, and 84.7 per cent for 4G availability. The latter is the proportion of time that Opensignal users with a 4G device have a 4G connection – not a measure of coverage.
However, the UK achieved a “very good” rating for video experience, achieving 66.2 out of a possible total of 100.
In contrast, South Korea the best performer in both download speeds and 4G availability clocked in at 52.4 Mbps and 97.5 per cent, respectively, while Norway the best performing European country in both metrics saw scores of 48.2 mbps and 95.5 per cent, respectively.
While European countries performed strongly overall – of the 10 countries who scored highly across all five of Opensignal’s metrics, only two were from outside Europe – only four were in the top 10 for 4G availability, while both the US and India were present, despite being “distinctly mid-table on other key metrics”.
