According to the company, Transatel's role will be to “enable seamless, secure, and speedy transmission,” of data from the aircraft to Airbus datacenters on the ground. It will also collect the data via onboard sensors, with the process taking place between flights while the aircraft is on layover.
A spokesperson for Transatel said: “Skywise is a value-adding service complementary to aircraft manufacturing. It performs at its best with high availability and high performance LTE/4G connectivity at airport locations. The solution integrates operational, maintenance and aircraft data, rigorously taking the pulse of Airbus aircraft in operation.”
Transatel CEO Jacques Bonifay said: "We're most honored to have been selected by Airbus as the cellular data solution for this prestigious and global project.
“We went through a thorough selection process, and it's most gratifying to be contributing to the valuable force of change that Skywise represents for the aeronautics industry."
