UK government launches COVID-19 social care app
A new digital solution has been developed to provide UK adult social care workers with a “single digital hub” for updated Coronavirus information, guidance on infection control, as well as wellbeing support.
According to a statement, the Care Workforce app - which was developed by NHSX and the NHS Business Services Authority - is a response to calls by the sector for a “more unified and connecting brand.” It will be available on both IoS and Android devices.
The app will also enable social care workers to take advantage of benefits, including free parking and discounts.
Speaking of the solution, minister of state for care, Helen Whately said: “The care sector is a vital part of our health and care frontline and this pandemic has shone a light on the skills, commitment and dedication of our care workers. The care workforce has long asked for a single, unifying brand to connect them to each other and I am delighted that we are able to launch this important new tool under the CARE umbrella.”
Information released by the government also outlines plans for the app to also be used as a networking platform in order to “bring the [18,000-strong] social care workforce together in one place.” A version of the solution is also under consideration for use by NHS workers.
