Speaking of the awards, a spokesperson for the organisation said: "They honour the exceptional progress made in wireless networks, smart cities and remote wireless deployments among operators and technology vendors worldwide. The aim of the independent judging panel - made up of industry experts, analysts and journalists - is to recognise and encourage excellence, as well as to promote successful practices and strategies in different aspects of wireless industry performance."

The winners of the WBA Industry Awards 2018 included:
- Best operator deployment: KT Corporation
- Best wireless network infrastructure: Ruckus Networks
- Best consumer-centric wireless service innovation: SK Telecom
- Best business wireless service innovation: th University of British Columbia, Cisco and Sensible Building Science
- Best connected city deployment: City of London Corporation & CTIL.
The WBA wireless leadership award went to Dr Derek Peterson, Boingo Wireless, Anupam Shrivastava and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
