Serving more than 100,000 public safety and commercial organisations in over 100 countries, Motorola Solutions is a global leader in communications. But it wasn’t always that way.
We began life in 1928 as a small-scale enterprise in Chicago run by two brothers. Our first product was a home battery eliminator enabling battery-powered radios to run on household electricity. Since then, the company has been committed to innovation in communications and electronics. We pioneered mobile communications with car and two-way radios, transmitted the first words from the moon, invented commercial handheld cellular phones and became a world leader in developing anywhere, anytime products, applications and services for public safety.
A story of innovation
It’s a spirit of invention and creativity that has connected people through technology and opened new avenues of communication. And it continues to shape our future today. Whether our customers are fighting crime on the streets or exploring new ways to be productive in the workplace, Motorola Solutions provides essential lines of communication that enables people to be safer, smarter and more efficient. It’s a story of innovation and partnership that helps responders and workers be their best in the moments that matter.
Adapt. Evolve. Innovate.
Looking ahead to the next 90 years, the moments and people will change but the mission remains the same – to adapt, evolve and innovate so customers can continue taking advantage of new technology that meets their needs. Our goal is to strive to identify problems that are important to our customers, then apply the skill, talent and creativity we have in the company to develop technological solutions that solve those problems.
“The scope of the problem is constantly changing and technology is also changing so you need to constantly reevaluate the solution and adapt to the world as it stands today, both in terms of technology and the nature of the problem for the customers. Motorola has been doing this for 90 years.” – Mahesh Saptharishi, Chief Technology Officer, Avigilon

“We rely on our network of channel partners to take our products and technology, then add in their own expertise in system building to deliver a complete solution that meets the specific and unique needs of our customers.” – Craig Calvert, Channel Sales Director, Northern and Middle East Regions, Motorola Solutions
Innovation. Our legacy. Our future.
It’s the efforts we make today that create new communication opportunities for the future. Our drive for continuous innovation and partnership is as strong today as it has ever been and is focused on keeping our customers at the forefront of mission-critical communications. That’s why we’re developing new solutions in smart technology, video surveillance and analytics, services and software. Advancing the lifeline is what Motorola Solutions is all about.
“The recent acquisition of Avigilon and some of the smart technology that is coming through that video acquisition is really exciting for us going forward and the potential to integrate that into some of our other Motorola Solutions offerings opens up new opportunities for the future.” Iain Clarke, Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMENA at Motorola Solutions.
Smart technology, including artificial intelligence, is a great example of how innovation can provide the right information to the right people at precisely the right moment. For public safety, this can be critical. As Mahesh Saptharishi of Avigilon explains, “What A.I. is capable of doing is adding that predictive element to make sure that there’s some amount of anticipatory power within your awareness to say there are certain events that potentially could lead to something that requires a police presence.”
Anticipating these events allows controllers to direct public safety officers to where they need to be for a rapid, effective response. Partnering with companies like Avigilon allows us to develop new communication solutions so our customers are ready, whenever and wherever the moment arrives.
