Your problems, our solutions

(Advertisement feature) This has been a special year for Motorola Solutions for many reasons and the company is looking ahead to PMRExpo, where it will be showcasing several new products

For 89 years, Motorola Solutions has been helping people be their best in the moments that matter. It does this by providing two-way radio communications devices and infrastructure tailored to users’ needs. The company pioneered mobile communications in the 1930s with car radios and public safety networks, made the equipment that carried the first words from the moon in 1969 and in 1983 launched the world’s first commercial handheld cellular phone and system.

While this year may be one short of the company’s 90th birthday (it was originally founded by the Galvin brothers as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation back in 1928), it is significant as it marks the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the MOTOTRBO™ digital radio platform.

The MOTOTRBO portfolio has been instrumental in enabling users’ transition from analogue to digital technologies, allowing them to benefit from improved reliability, voice quality and battery life. Since its introduction, Motorola Solutions has added features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, job-ticketing, GPS and location tracking, dispatch applications, text messaging, and longer talk times, all supported by one of the industry’s biggest application developer programmes. The company’s commitment to MOTOTRBO can be seen by the fact that it has recently launched a new MOTOTRBO hand portable radio and a repeater, and continues to expand the platform’s capabilities with software such as WAVE, which enables MOTOTRBO users to seamlessly communicate with colleagues using smartphones, tablets or desktop computers.

Choosing Motorola Solutions as your supplier means that you’ll enjoy support from its more than 4,000 strong partner network. “Our customers in government and commercial markets require local, highly specialized expertise to deliver services and end-to-end solutions to fit their specific and sometimes quite complex needs. Motorola Solutions’ PartnerEmpower program enables our partners to intimately understand our products and services, develop deep technical knowhow, and become experts in serving those complex needs of our customers”, said Vivienne Francis, Vice President, EMEA Channel Sales & Operations. “With rich experience in solutions development, implementation, integration, professional services and fulfillment, our partners exceed expectations in our growth markets and drive an expanding portfolio. They are truly an extension of our business, and a trusted advisor to our mutual customers.”

Motorola Solutions designs its products and software for easy operation during periods of intense stress for their users and engages with its customers in the design process. Its research and development teams continuously innovate to build products that excite the marketplace and solve its customers’ problems.

“We innovate through customer observation,” said Eduardo Conrado, Motorola Solutions EVP, chief strategy and innovation officer. “We have researchers who work and ride alongside our customers. They’ll spend thousands of hours with police, with fire, with emergency medical services (EMS), just observing what day-to-day problems they have. We then match those problems up with what technology can do and then we look at what solutions we can bring to market…. Sometimes a customer can’t tell you what they need, but they’ll show you.”

This design philosophy extends to Motorola Solutions’ portfolio of products for commercial users. The MOTOTRBO SL2600 small and light radio (shown left) was created in response to customer requests for a discreet and slim design, ideal for workers in professional settings. With a virtual keypad and display, the lightweight SL2600 makes it easy to navigate between functions and toggle between voice and data.

On the infrastructure side, customers wishing to extend the range of their MOTOTRBO network asked the company to provide a repeater that could be deployed more flexibly and with lower total cost of ownership. The SLR 1000 meets these requirements – its compact and rugged design makes it easy to install and it is perfect for use in both outdoor and indoor locations. The SLR 1000 doesn’t require additional cooling equipment, giving the customer more placement options and reducing operating costs.

Another solution inspired by user feedback is Capacity Max, a scalable, highly secure trunked radio communications solution that can support up to 250 sites with up to 3,000 users per site. The Capacity Max architecture is optimised for high performance, high efficiency and graceful scalability. It enables instant, reliable voice and data communications, better decision-making and seamless coordination across a single campus or a large-scale operation.

Powerful system management tools give you complete control over the radio network – all from a single workstation. This includes processes for pushing out software and firmware patches to the system server, infrastructure and radio. You can even remotely disable and re-enable a device if it is misplaced or stolen.

And, since Capacity Max is ETSI DMR Tier III compliant, you can be confident that you are investing in open standard technology with global support.

Come and see us at PMRExpo
Motorola Solutions has been committed to PMRExpo for more than 10 years as one of its key partners, and will be exhibiting its latest products and solutions again this year at the event in Kölnmesse, Cologne, on the 28-30th of November. Be sure to visit Motorola Solutions at stand C12. There you’ll see its DMR, TETRA, LTE and Voice-Over-Broadband solutions, including accessories, applications and services – all designed to keep you connected when you need it.

David Parry, Motorola Solutions’ director EMEA marketing, said: “Motorola Solutions participates in a range of exhibitions, most recently CCMENA, supporting our partners and customers in the Middle East. We also participated at CCW and both events predominantly focus on public safety. We’re now looking forward to PMRExpo, the last major show of the year, which addresses the needs of the commercial sector in addition to emergency services users. Motorola Solutions is also looking forward to attending next year’s CCW, which like PMRExpo, will take place in Germany.”

“We’ll be bringing some of our innovations to PMRExpo,” adds Parry. “For public safety, these include an application of Mixed Reality technology for fire and rescue services we’re developing with our partners and customers.

“On the business side, we’ll be exhibiting solutions principally aimed at the hospitality, transport, manufacturing and utility sectors, all of which are large, well-developed parts of the German economy. Here, we’re focused on improving efficiency and safety for both their employees and customers through voice communications and data applications.

“The emphasis is very much on real-time information sharing and collaboration. It’s a very similar story to public safety, but with solutions geared to these sectors’ specific requirements.”

Motorola Solutions has a long-track record of success in these sectors. On the transport side, Munich Airport has been using Motorola Solutions’ TETRA technology since 2007 and recently requested a comprehensive update of its system. The airport has also started a pilot project to potentially introduce Motorola Solutions broadband push-to-talk WAVE platform, to enable greater workforce connectivity, interoperability and collaboration.

In addition, Gatwick Airport chose to deploy a MOTOTRBO Capacity Max system because of its resilience, high security, and flexibility. The airport is also benefiting from TRBOnet PLUS, a dispatcher application that enables voice recording, mapping and event logging in the control room, and iBeacon indoor positioning, which allows alerts to be sent to individual radios based on location. With the new system, central controllers can dispatch the closest employee to an incident, saving staff valuable time.

On the manufacturing side, Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Ltd’s €800 million factory in Kecskemét, Hungary is benefitting from the enhanced digital performance MOTOTRBO radio system, which combined with Neocom’s TRBOnet Enterprise dispatcher software, allows easy communications between security guards, the on-site fire department and maintenance teams. Radio users can be tracked and monitored in real time with a TRBOnet Indoor system, which uses beacons to locate personnel quickly and easily in an emergency.

Motorola Solutions also has long-term relationships with many utilities. One of the most enduring is that with RheinEnergie, which received Germany’s first IP-capable TETRA system from Motorola Solutions in 2005. The utility has opted to update and expand the system across its 28 sites and relies on it to provide unrestricted communications even in the case of serious technical faults.

Motorola Solutions has a long and proud history of serving the German public safety market. Earlier this year, it celebrated the delivery of its 300,000th TETRA terminal in the country, while also delivering its 1,000th DIMETRA™ TETRA system out of its TETRA Center of Excellence in Berlin in April.

Since the first TETRA tender was issued in Germany in 2009, Motorola Solutions has delivered digital radio terminals, software, accessories, services and solutions to security forces in the German federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia as well as to the nationwide public safety organisations.

Motorola Solutions has also recently signed a framework contract with the Central Procurement Office of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior for the delivery of TETRA digital radio terminals, accessories, software and services. The mission-critical communication solutions from Motorola Solutions are also deployed by numerous businesses in sectors such as: oil and gas, manufacturing, airports, utilities and public transport.

Last year at PMRExpo, Motorola Solutions unveiled the ADVISOR™ TPG2200 TETRA two-way pager, to support the German fire services (Feuerwehr) – particularly those that rely on volunteers and therefore need to quickly know how many of them can attend an incident.

At this year’s exhibition, Motorola Solutions will be showcasing some of the company’s latest offerings, including the MOTOTRBO SL2600 portable radio and SLR 1000 repeater, DIMETRA Express and the XT600d.

The MOTOTRBO SL2600 provides the power of instant, two-way radio communication without compromising on style. It’s packed with features and functionality including clear audio in analogue or digital mode, Bluetooth 4.0 audio and data, integrated Wi-Fi for remote programming, location tracking using iBeacons, and a virtual display and keypad that lights up when you need it and goes dark when you don’t.

The new MOTOTRBO SLR 1000 low power repeater has been designed to be easy to deploy inside or outdoors. It supports all MOTOTRBO system types, plus analogue conventional and MPT1327 and its compact, fanless IP65 design gives more flexibility for installation choices.

Integrating the switch and base radios, to give a single-site TETRA system-in-a-box, DIMETRA Express is a modular system offering the voice, short data, and telephony services your teams demand. And it’s expandable to multiple sites, so it can grow as your business does.

The XT600d Series (shown left) is Motorola Solutions’ first digital PMR446 radio and supports analogue PMR446 for ease of migration. It offers individual and group calling, caller ID, remote monitor / disable, texting, audio recording and more.

The Motorola Solutions team will also be on hand to demonstrate how the latest MOTOTRBO software enables WAVE Work Group Communications software to be used directly on the radio over Wi-Fi. WAVE links any device across LMR and broadband networks, letting MOTOTRBO radios communicate with colleagues using desktop machines, mobile phones or tablets. WAVE-enabled communications let businesses get ahead of shop floor or management problems and keep key personnel in constant contact when needed.

In addition, a wide selection from the entire Motorola Solutions product line up will be on display, so while you’re there, be sure to visit its stand and talk to the experts.

“PMRExpo is one of the major events in the radio calendar, especially as its attendees come from all across Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” adds Parry. “It’s an opportunity for us to showcase our latest and greatest as well as our established products to both existing and new partners and customers. My team and I hope to see you there.”
