LiFi-XC consists of an access point alongside a dongle, allowing it to be used via laptops, tablets and smart appliances. Three times smaller than its previous iteration, the product is compatible with Windows 7, Windows 10, Linux and MAC OS.
LiFi is designed for deployment in concert with LED lighting, providing ‘high-speed, bi-directional, multiple access, fully networked and secure wireless communications’ without the use of radio waves.
Speaking of the development of the XC, pureLiFi CEO Alistair Banham said: “Over the past year we have been driving adoption of LiFi and deploying real-world applications for our customers globally.
“We have now reached the point in miniaturisation where we will see it move beyond the dongle and be integrated. The LiFi-XC is a big step towards getting this disruptive technology into every bulb and every mobile device."
The company’s CTO Mostafa Afgani said: “This is not just an accomplishment in reduced form factor - we have also made substantial leaps in delivering a great user experience. The product offers plug and play connectivity out of the box, and supports an even wider range of off the shelf LEDs.
“LiFi is well-positioned to help address the rising concern that our growing reliance on connectivity is creating an unprecedented strain on wireless networks resulting in the 'spectrum crunch’.”
